Lake Fork is located approximately 80 miles east of Dallas, Texas.

Consisting of 27,690 surface acres, Lake Fork offers the optimal habitat and conditions to produce and sustain healthy bass.  The current state record Largemouth bass was caught here, January 24, 1992, weighing 18.18 lbs. Recent catches of double digit Largemouth bass support the fact that Lake Fork will continue to  consistently produce large, healthy bass now, and in future years.  Lake Fork has earned its reputation as one of the premier bass lakes in the country.  Currently, 34 of the top 50 largest bass caught in the state of Texas were caught here, on Lake Fork!

Texas Parks and Wildlife management of Lake Fork and anglers' voluntary practice of "Catch and Release" greatly contributes to the large numbers of trophy size bass in the lake.  Lake Fork is well known for its contribution to the  Share Lunker Program. Under this program, Anglers loan Largemouth bass weighing 13lbs or more to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for spawning and research.  The fish are then returned to the anglers for live release.  The superior genetics from these fish will be used to improve the quality of Largemouth bass stocked in Texas waters.  Click on the link for more information or to view current and past Share Lunker entries.

Current lake regulations restrict the harvest of Largemouth bass to a 16" to 24" slot limit. All bass greater than 16" and less than 24" in length must be released. A 5 bass daily limit, of which only 1 bass may be 24" or greater, is also in effect.  Lake Fork is also known for its large populations of Crappie, and Catfish. Click on the species of fish for creel limit information.

The best opportunity to catch that "Bass of a Lifetime," is in the Spring during the pre-spawn, spawn period when there are larger numbers of bass available in shallow water.  However, trophy size bass are caught year round on Lake Fork.

The higher temperatures in July and August usually dictate fishing deeper  structure located on main lake points, or the many humps and submerged road beds in the lake.

The return of cooler weather in Autumn triggers a feeding frenzy and large schools of bass can be found on just about any part of the lake.  Largemouth bass can also be found around the shallow water grass beds on main lake and secondary points as they migrate to and from the backs of the many creeks on the lake.
